Stinging Nettle Herb is native to Europe, Asia, northern Africa, & western North America. The plant has now been naturalized nearly worldwide. Five of the Six species of Nettle will cause intense stings when the leaves or stems are touched, grabbed or even just brushed up against. The intense stinging/burning sensation normally lasts only 15 minutes or so and is caused by the plant Trichomes which are small, hollow needles easily penetrating human skin. Interestingly, once the plant is dried, boiled or cooked, the plant can no longer sting and is used as a food source as well as a time tested herbal remedy.
